Considerable management/ administration experience in all areas of live and recorded performing arts, both at project and at company level (from 1967). Much associated experience of running creative teams.

He has built up a portfolio of independent production projects seeking funding. These are mainly drama (but include wine as special interest subject). Several feature projects are scripted and looking for co-production partners. “The Palestrina Affair” is in development for upcoming production.

Perceptive Creation has produced and distributes "The Art of Cool‑climate Vinegrowing" and "The Art of Cool‑climate Winemaking", nearly 5 hours of generic industry training videos (adopted as recommended reading for students by The Wine & Spirit Education Trust).

 

Background

 

In 20+ years theatre experience, he has directed over 80 professional stage productions (several pages of brief favourable press comments are available), as well as having useful experience as actor, stage manager, lighting designer/ operator, sound designer/ operator, theatre photographer ‑ and in particular as theatre and company manager. 1993-2006: set up and ran The Wessex Actors Company, a professional regional touring theatre company.

In 4 years broadcast TV experience (Scottish Television), he spent 2 years on promotions and a further 2 as writer/ researcher/ Programme Associate (effectively assistant producer) on arts programmes and daytime general interest programmes. He has over 200 screen credits.

In 10 years full-time experience and many years' freelancing in the corporate sector, he has produced, directed and scripted a substantial number of videos, slide‑tape programmes, multi‑projector shows and conferences for a very wide range of clients (with a particular specialism in financial presentations). Set up and ran Avidata (1982-7), a production company based in the City of London, plus Corporate Image Group, a marketing umbrella with four other companies.

Production Manager for A.V.E., Kingston-on-Thames (1979-82).

Health Education Officer/ AV Producer for Argyll & Clyde Health Education Unit (1977-9).

He produced/ directed/ scripted "Old Mrs Chundle", an 18 minute short film based on a story by Thomas Hardy (pilot for a series based on Hardy’s short stories). A short amateur drama film "Image", made in the mid 70s, won the Adjudicator's Award (Caspar Wrede) at the 17th SIAFF ‑ and his public comment that M.B. was "a natural film‑maker".

Classic stage adaptations: "Tom Jones" (Henry Fielding), "The Warden" (Anthony Trollope), "Love Letters", "Passion and the Revolutionary" and "The Indiscretion of an Heiress" (Thomas Hardy) for Wessex Actors Company. Also "O McGonagall"  (also directed/produced).

“The Balance of Mind” developed through Writernet/ Brewhouse Theatre New Writing initiative – full Scratch Night presentation DVD available. Radio version available.
